Building Tomorrow Together

Building Tomorrow Together

By Hector Rivero, President & CEO
Texas Chemistry Council & Texas Chemistry Alliance

Our industry and the communities we call home face challenges both global and domestic: economic uncertainty and evolving political landscape create challenges that impact business markets, increase the cost of goods and services, make it more difficult to buy a home, and threaten local jobs. In times like these, one truth remains clear—when industry and community partners work side by side, we are stronger.

By fostering collaboration and strengthening our partnerships, we build resilience today and open doors to opportunity for tomorrow. That spirit of unity is at the heart of the chemical industry’s success in Texas. From investing in new innovations and greater sustainability, to preparing the next generation of our workforce, to advancing policies that protect business investment and competitiveness, progress happens when we work together to build the future.

Supporting Industry in Challenging Times

During difficult times, the Texas Chemistry Council (TCC) and the Texas Chemistry Alliance (TCA) play a critical role in supporting our industries—whether it is seeking economic incentives for new industry investment, securing timely permits, advocating for sound, science-based regulations, or providing strong representation in the face of regulatory and legislative uncertainty.

TCC recognizes the importance of supporting our members during challenging times to protect their investments, protect their jobs, and help ensure safe operations. It is precisely in these moments that our members need us most. Together, we can navigate challenges and seize opportunities that no single company can accomplish alone.

Building Through Advocacy, Safety, and People

This year’s industry efforts reflect this mission in concrete ways. Chemistry Day at the Capitol brought industry representatives together with lawmakers, ensuring our industry voice is heard on critical issues that shape the competitiveness of our industry. Our Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Seminar & Industry Tradeshow provided a forum to strengthen safety performance, share best practices, and reinforce our long-standing commitment to safe and sustainable operations.  And our Industry Awards Banquet recognizes industry excellence in safety performance and community outreach.

TCA events across Texas create spaces for contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers to strengthen our community and build relationships that drive long-term success. Working together, our community can continue to grow, strengthen our workforce, and expand opportunities for our communities.

And across our communities, member companies continue to demonstrate their commitment through volunteerism, philanthropy, and local engagement. These efforts show that industry and community are not separate, they are interdependent.

A Year of Shared Progress

One of the highlights of 2025 was our Annual Industry Luncheon, which brought together representatives of industry, the Port of Houston, the Economic Alliance, with our Harris County Commissioner, Adrian Garcia, leading a discussion emphasizing how collaboration between industry, government, and community can create practical solutions to ensure our community and our state remains competitive on a global scale.

While the luncheon was a moment to showcase this collaboration, it was just one part of a broader effort by TCC and TCA throughout the year to keep industry and community moving forward together.

Looking Ahead

As we prepare to enter 2026, the lesson is clear: the challenges ahead are real, but so is our capacity to meet them. By continuing to work together, our community can build tomorrow together.

That work will continue in the year ahead, and I am confident that with unity, collaboration, and shared purpose, The business of chemistry in Texas will remain a global leader—driving innovation, creating opportunity, and improving lives across our state and beyond. Together with our community, we can build tomorrow today—ensuring a stronger, more resilient Texas for generations to come.
